Xiao Yin Pian functions to remove pathogenic heat from the blood, to ameliorate dryness by enriching the blood, and to relieve itchiness by dispelling wind. It is primarily used to treat psoriasis.

Pill: orally taken 0.3g per pill, 5-7 pills each time, 3 times a day. 1-3 months constitute one course of treatment. 5:1 concentrated extract: 9 grams/day.

| Precautions |
Toxicity: LD 50 (mice/abdominal injection): 8.956g/ kg. Side Effects: There has been a report of 2 cases of male sexual dysfunction after taking Xiao Yin Wan.( 1)

| Pharmacology |
Counteracting allergic reaction: Administered to guinea pigs by endogastric infusion at 8g/kg, Xiao Yin Pian is shown to prolong the latency of histamine-induced asthma. At 5g/kg, the formula can delay the onset of allergic reaction symptoms brought on by bovine serum, and significantly reduce the occurrence rate of allergic reaction.( 2)
Anti-inflammatory effects: Fed to mice at 1-4g/kg, Xiao Yin Pian has a significant inhibitory effect on xylol-induced increase in auricular capillary permeability. Administered to mice by endogastric perfusion at 4g/kg, it can significantly inhbit egg albumin-induced foot edema.(3)

| Clinical Applications |
Psoriasis Li, et al. treated about 200 cases of psoriasis with Xiao Yin Pian. The results: 47.6% of the patients were resolved, 35.7% improved, and the remaining 16.7% did not respond to the treatment, with a total effective rate of 83.3%. On average, the patients recovered in 54.4 days. ( 4)
