(NC)-Despite recent reports about a possible economic crunch, many are still giving the environment top billing, according to a recent study. The study also reports that the long-term financial and environmental benefits are what appeal to most.
One of the simplest and most effective ways to make your household more green is replacing light bulbs. This significantly reduces the amount of electricity used in the home as well as the amount of harmful greenhouse gases. Replacing one incandescent light bulb with an energy-efficient compact fluorescent can result in an annual savings of more than $50 in household electricity costs. In addition to compact fluorescent bulbs, Philips Electronics has recently introduced new halogen energy-saving bulbs and ultra-efficient LED bulbs to offer consumers more energy-saving options.
"It's encouraging to see consumer purchasing trends move towards true environmentally-friendly products," states Court Elliot, Communications Manager with Philips Electronics Ltd. "We understand that consumers are looking for green products that not only positively affect the environment, but also their wallets. "
Some other suggestions to help your household reduce its environmental impact, while saving on energy costs are:
• Replace old appliances with energy efficient ones
• Unplug tvs, stereos and other electronics when not in use
• Turn off the lights when leaving a room
• Place outdoor lights on timers
• Make the most of natural light by opening window blinds and curtains
• Keep the air conditioner and furnace on low settings.
